Munich in lockdown in likely terrorist attack - at least 9 people killed

Police forces in Munich, Germany are on a hunt for three gunmen, whom they believe conducted a terrorist attack at a shopping centre and McDonald's restaurant. Nine people have been confirmed dead. Reports say children where also targeted in the attack.

According to CNN report, the shooting broke out at a McDonald's restaurant across from the Olympia shopping mall about 5:50 p.m. (11:50 a.m. ET), police spokeswoman Claudia Küntzel said. Gunfire also broke out inside the mall, which is adjacent to the site of the 1972 Olympics, witnesses said.

Two New York police officers have been shot dead by a gunman who then killed himself, officials said.

The officers were killed without warning on Saturday as they sat in their patrol car in Brooklyn, Police Commissioner William Bratton told a news conference, flanked by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“Although we’re still learning the details, it’s clear that this was an assassination, that these officers were shot execution style,” said de Blasio.

Bratton named the gunman as Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, and said he fled into a nearby metro station after the shooting and died there from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
