Good morning! Here is the news in brief:
1.It was a near plane crash on
Saturday when an Overland flight 1186 crash landed in Ilorin AIrport. Report
says fifty-nine passengers and four crew members on board the plane escaped
unhurt as the aircraft veered off the runway after landing. It was reported
that the airline took off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.
2. Report says Maxwell Olusegun
Adegbenro, Special Assistant on Social Media to the immediate past governor of
Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has raised a strong allegation against traditional
rulers in Ekiti State, who attended a forum organised by Concerned Yoruba
Elders in Ile-Ife yesterday. He is accusing the traditional rulers of
collecting N150, 000 bribe each to attend the event.
3. A former Commissioner for Health in the defunct Western
Region, Sir Olaniwun Ajayi, and a former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Union
of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Chief Frank Kokori, on Friday cautioned
the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, against taking sides on
political matters relating to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the
opposition All Progressives Congress.
4.Report also has it this morning
that a former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Rafiu Jafojo, and other chieftains
of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos on Saturday moved to the All
Progressives Congress, APC. Others who defected to the ruling party in the
state are former Lagos State Chairman, Elders Council of PDP, Dr. Oluyomi
Finnih, and former state secretary of the party, Tunde Daramola.
5.The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido
Sanusi, yesterday reacted to the bomb blast that hit Kano central Mosque on
Friday, saying Muslims cannot be intimidated into abandoning their religion. He
also reiterated that those behind the attack were not Muslims, as their actions
contradict the teachings of Islam.
6.A sad report says Nigeria’s former
Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Gbenga Ashiru is dead. Gbenga, according
to report died on Saturday in a South African hospital after a protracted brain
tumor. He died at the age of 66 after three months in hospital bed.
7.In a reaction to the Friday bomb blast in Kano state, the
Christian Association of Nigeria has said that the attack on the mosque was
evil, saying it was an act that must be denounced by all Christians and Muslims
as God does not promote shedding of blood in any form. The condemnation came
through the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.
8. About eleven persons were were
reportedly killed in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba Egbema Ndoni local government
area of Rivers State. According reports, the victims were killed following a
shooting spree by gunmen who stormed the area Friday night and Saturday
afternoon.
9.The Nigeria Prison Service (NPS)
has dismissed media reports about an attempted jailbreak by some convicted
soldiers in Yola Prison, Adamawa State. The Spokesperson of the service, Ope
Fatinukun, in a statement said there was no pandemonium, commotion nor gun
shots fired into air in Yola prison as reported widely in the media.
10. Chinedum Orji, first son of the Abia
State governor, yesterday won the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, House of
Assembly ticket for Umuahia Central state constituency as he defeated other
challengers, Adighibe Maduakolam, and George Uwalaka by 11 out of the 12 total
votes cast at the Primary election. One vote was voided as his challengers
picked up no vote during the election
