Nigerian military and vigilantes reclaim Nigerian towns from Boko Haram.

Nigerian troops in conjunction with vigilantes have reclaimed two towns seized by Boko Haram last week. Gombi and Hong towns were recaptured from the Islamic militants on Tuesday after soldiers and the vigilantes, backed by fighter jets stormed the towns on Monday and engaged the militants in a fierce gunfight.

Residents say that the gun battle claimed the lives of several militants, while 10 soldiers were killed. The two towns had been under Islamist control since last Thursday after pushing out troops with hundreds of residents fleeing for safety.

The military have confirmed the capture of many militants in the operation while others died in the assault. They have also recovered the militants' weapons and equipment.
