Unidentified gunmen, yesterday snatched one of the official vehicles attached to the governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido.
The incident was confirmed in Dutse, the state capital by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdu Jinjiri. He said the Jigawa State police command received the news that “at exactly 9pm a Toyata Land cruiser V8 driven by one Auwalu Mohammed was snatched at gunpoint by unidentified robbers.”
He said the police command has drafted its men across the state to track the stolen vehicle, while the driver, Auwalu Mohammed has been arrested and been interrogated by the state criminal investigation department (CID)
Cases of vehicles robbery has become rampant in Jigawa State with people from neighboring states and countries bombarding the state capital, Dutse to steal vehicles especially those belonging to government and civil servants working in the state civil service and other private individuals.
The police spokesman also debunked the rumour that the command has ordered the closure of all viewing centres across the state, saying the Force has no such jurisdiction. “The law has not given power to the police to make such a move; it is beyond our control”.
